Jilt allows you to tag contacts. This can be useful to segment certain contacts based on tags in your automated, transactional, or broadcast emails. It can also be helpful to store unique data associated with a customer.

Here's how you can add tags to contacts:

Manually adding tags to an individual contact

  1. Visit the Contacts Page in your Jilt admin
  2. Click through to view an individual contact by clicking on the individual contact email address
  3. Click "Edit"
  4. In the Tags field, enter any tags that you would like to add, separating them by commas or selecting them as they appear in the dropdown

Bulk adding (or removing) tags

  1. Visit the Contacts Page in your Jilt admin
  2. Select all contacts you would like to apply (Pro tip - use filters to create a segment and select all)
  3. Be sure to click "Select all x contacts" in the upper right hand corner to select all contacts beyond the first page
  4. In the Tags field, enter any tags that you would like to add, separating them by commas or selecting them as they appear in the dropdown
  5. Click Actions > Edit Tags
  6. In the Add Tags field, enter any tags that you would like to add, separating them by commas or selecting them as they appear in the dropdown
  7. Hit "Save" and the tags will start applying! It may take a few moments before the tags are fully applied.

To remove tags: Use the Remove tags field, remove the tags by clicking the "x" next to the tag and hit "Save"

If you see a tag on your contacts that isn't listed in "Remove Tags" view, it is synced from Shopify and will need to be removed in the "Customers" area of your Shopify admin. Jilt will automatically update your Jilt contact based on changes made in Shopify.

Adding tags via contact import

You can add or update tags via customer import.

See our guide on importing contacts to find out how to include them.

If a contact already exists when importing contacts via CSV with tags, those newly added tags will be added in addition to any current tags. It will not override them.

Automatically add tags via signup form

If you are collecting email addresses via one of Jilt's built in signup forms, you can automatically tag contacts who sign up via those forms.

Check out our guide on adding signup forms with Jilt for more details on how to do that.

Automatically sync tags from Shopify

Shopify offers built in customer tagging. Any tags that are added or removed in Shopify will be automatically synced with that customer in Jilt.

WooCommerce and EDD don't currently offer customer tagging functionality.

Adding contacts to lists

Not really into using tags? Or want to create lists of contacts regardless of their tags? We got you. Head over here to read how to create and use lists in Jilt.
