If you bought your domain through Shopify, they have released a new feature that manages your domain's DNS settings from your Shopify Admin account. If you have this feature, please check out our article Send Jilt emails from your custom Shopify domain for getting started.

We covered generating your Jilt DNS records along with some general guidelines in our article Can I send emails from my own domain? Here we'll take a look at adding the SPF and DKIM records to your custom domain purchased through Shopify.

Now, let's start sending your emails with your own domain.

Request access for your OpenSRS account

When you purchase a domain through Shopify, behind-the-scenes your domain is managed via an OpenSRS account, where you can view and edit your DNS settings. To get the login credentials, Shopify asks that you contact their support team. Then you have full access to your domain records and we can get you up and running with sending out emails "from" your shop's domain.

Log in to your OpenSRS account

1. Once you've received your login credentials from Shopify's help team, log in to your account's control panel at OpenSRS by using this link

2. From the Manage Your Domain screen, click the Name Servers/DNS menu item.

3. Now click the Modify DNS Zone link

4. The DNS Zone for your domain will load below. 

Create a DKIM record

1. Scroll down to the TXT Records section and select the Add Record button.

2. Enter the Host/Name we previously generated from Jilt (see Can I send emails from my own domain?) into the Subdomain field (eg. 20171017171308pm._domainkey ).

3. In the Text field, we'll enter the TXT Value we copied from Jilt's Email Domains setup page. Paste the value starting with "k=rsa;" .

4. Click the Save DNS Zone button to save the record.

Great job! We're almost done.

Create a SPF record

1. Click the Add Record button in the TXT Records section.

2. Leave the Subdomain field blank.

3. In the Text field, enter the TXT Value generated by Jilt. Paste this value, v=spf1 include:spf.jiltmta.net ~all .

4. Click the Save DNS Zone button to save the record.

If your OpenSRS account already has an SPF record

In some instances, you might already have an SPF record in your Records list. It's not recommended to have multiple records - this can lead to delivery and spam issues. Instead, we can adjust the entry to include a portion of Jilt's TXT Value

Add the following to your existing SPF record and move the ~all to the end: include:spf.jiltmta.net 

Your final SPF record might look something like this:
 v=spf1 a mx include:_spf.google.com include:spf.jiltmta.net ~all
