Make sure to complete the previous steps in our migration guide: Integrate your store with Mailchimp.
Great job on taking care of the first few migration steps! The basic email capture features are now in place so we can spend some time on the principal migration step: contact imports.
Export your contacts from Jilt
First, we'll want to export all of your contacts that are in Jilt.
From your Jilt account, go to Contacts
Bulk select your contacts
Click Actions > Export contacts

A link to download the export file will be sent to your email address when it's ready. Once you've downloaded the file, unzip the package. It will contain up to five CSV files:
All-contacts. This file includes the entire list of contacts that were exported and is included in every contact export that's processed by Jilt.
Subscribed. This list includes all contacts that have explicitly opted-in to receive marketing emails from your store.
Unsubscribed. This list includes all contacts that have opted out of your email marketing. The action is typically completed by clicking the unsubscribe link in an email.
Non-subscribed. This list includes all contacts that have neither opted-in or opted-out of your email marketing.
Suppressed. This list includes all contacts that have the suppressed status in Jilt (read more on statuses here). Contacts move to this status when their email address hard bounces, they mark one of your emails as spam, or they unsubscribe from your emails.
Note: The export file includes the CSVs for which you have matching contacts. We won't generate a CSV if there are no contacts in one of the opt-in or status lists.
Import contacts into Mailchimp
Log into your Mailchimp account
Open the Audience dashboard
Click Manage Audience > Import contacts

Choose Upload file and click Continue to Upload
Select the Browse link and upload one of the following CSV files that were included in Jilt's contact export: Suppressed.csv, Subscribed.csv, Non-subscribed.csv, Unsubscribed.csv.

Click Continue to Organize
From the dropdown, select the status that corresponds with the file you're importing from Jilt.
Jilt list | Mailchimp status |
Suppressed.csv | Cleaned |
Subscribed.csv | Subscribed |
Non-subscribed.csv | Non-subscribed |
Unsubscribed.csv | Unsubscribed |
Optionally, you can choose to update any existing contacts (i.e., contacts that have already been synced from your store).

Click Continue to Tag
On the Tag your contacts screen you can choose to add a tag to each of the contacts in Mailchimp. Using something like "Jilt import" may be useful to keep track of the migrated contacts.

Click Continue to Match
Matching column labels to contact information.
At a minimum, you'll want to keep all of the default mappings as per the below table. We also recommend mapping the Locale, Tags, and Opt-in date fields as noted.

Mapping custom fields
Mailchimp properties with the "---" entry in the above table require adding a custom field. To create a custom field, click the exclamation mark ("!") next to the column header in the upper right.
From the dropdown select Create a new field. Add a new field label and choose the appropriate data type.

Once you've finished mapping columns select the Finalize Import button.
A confirmation screen will appear -- make sure that the imported audience has the correct email marketing status.

Click Complete Import
Repeat this process for each of the CSV files that were included in your Jilt export package.
